Jamie and Brian's Downtown Denver Engagement

Jamie and Brian’s engagement session was one of the first times that I had the opportunity to discuss with my clients why an engagement session was beneficial. I’ll have an entire post about that on the blog later this week, so stay tuned.

Both Brian and Jamie have demanding jobs that keep them busy, but agreed that an engagement shoot would be a good experience and we decided to do their shoot in Downtown Denver.

We met at Union Station and began our shoot there. Denver’s Union Station is one of my favorite places to shoot in Denver. The old fashioned nature of its decorations and its bright, airy feel speak to my soul and make a beautifully lit area to capture photos.

We also captured photos at Cheesman Park, which has a beautiful colonnade pavilion that offers perfect shade and allows just the right amount of light to come through for an afternoon shoot.

We finished our session at Larmier Square. We wrapped just as twinkle lights were coming on and captured some of the intimate charm of the area.

One of the things that I love about Jamie and Brian’s engagement session was that it proves that an engagement session in the Colorado winter doesn’t have to be drab, colorless, or contrived. Colorado’s mountains are breathtaking, but Denver has a ton of historical buildings and its own charm. A downtown session keeps photos from coming across too seasonal, as the images tend to be seasonally appropriate for the majority of the year. Every session, just like every wedding, is best done when it reflects the interests and the personality of the people involved. Jamie and Brian loved their Denver lifestyle and were excited to capture part of the joy they experienced living in the city.

Initially, Brian had voiced concern that he may not enjoy engagement photos. That has become a common occurrence with many of my grooms over the years. They can be concerned that photos will be slow moving, make them step out of their comfort zone too much, or will make them self conscious. It was one of the greatest compliments of my career for him to sincerely tell me at the end of the session that he had enjoyed it thoroughly.
